The Commission stated that its preparations remain on track despite delays in the passage of the amended Electoral Act currently before the National Assembly. INEC confirmed that it has completed work on the election timetable and schedule of activities and is now awaiting legislative action on the proposed amendments.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). He noted that while the Commission has submitted its recommendations to lawmakers, the timing of the Electoral Act’s amendment could impact certain elements of the election schedule.

According to Amupitan, some activities in the timetable may need adjustments depending on when the National Assembly finalizes the amended law. Nevertheless, he emphasized that INEC remains committed to conducting a credible election.
He added that until the amended Electoral Act is passed and signed into law, the Commission will continue to operate under the existing legal framework.
