INEC revealed that it has received similar acronyms from two political groupings vying for registration as political parties.

The first of the proposed parties, the All Democratic Alliance, is reportedly supported by a coalition of prominent political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Concerns regarding possible acronym duplication were raised when a different group, allegedly supported by followers of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, filed a registration request with a similar name.

Furthermore, 40 applications lacked a protem national chairman, five lacked a protem national secretary, and seven lacked both. One application was filed without a party logo, and four submissions lacked an established address.

Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of INEC, said earlier at a consultative meeting with media executives in Abuja that as of June 23, 2025, the commission had received 110 letters and was reviewing them methodically in compliance with electoral laws and guidelines.

Yakubu addressed concerns over impartiality by rejecting assertions that the commission was jeopardising its independence.

Additionally, he declared that the commission was prepared to resume nationwide Continuous Voter Registration and hold any unfinished by-elections.
