Invictus Obi, Jailed In US Over $11m Fraud, Gets Freedom From Prison

Nigerian businessman Obinwanne Okeke, also known as Invictus Obi, has been freed from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for fraud in the United States.

According to information found on the US Federal Bureau of Prisons‘ (BOP) website, Okeke was released from custody on Wednesday, December 23, 2025.

The result indicates that Okeke was “Not in BOP Custody as of: 12/23/2025”.

Invictus Obi

Invictus Obi had admitted to the accusations in February 2021 and was given a 10-year prison sentence for $11 million fraud.

The Nigerian businessman was scheduled to be released from prison on September 3, 2028, according to the terms of his sentence.

However, as Okeke might have received a reprieve or a few years of supervised release, although sources are yet to verify the specifics of his sentence.

BACKGROUND

In 2019, Okeke was detained by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) at Dulles International Airport while fleeing the United States for committing $11 million in online fraud.

Invictus Obi and others engaged in an email compromise scheme targeting Unatrac Holding Limited, the export sales office for Caterpillar heavy industrial and farm equipment.

A phishing email that tricked an Unatrac executive in April 2018 gave conspirators access to login credentials. The conspirators included fictitious invoices with their fraudulent wire transfer requests.

The Nigerian was once listed by Forbes as one of the 100 Most Influential Young Africans.
