The Chairman of IPAC, Yusuf Dantalle, made the remark on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television.

According to him, the council had earlier harmonised its position on the amendment and forwarded its recommendations to the National Assembly of Nigeria, but lamented that none of the proposals were considered.

“Some of the anomalies we pointed out are in the new law. The electoral act doesn’t benefit Nigerians.

“During the exercise, the review of the Electoral Act and the Constitution, IPAC met, which is all the parties, we made our positions clear.

“We put them, harmonized them, send them to the National Assembly Joint Committee on the Electoral Act Amendment and the Constitution. Unfortunately, none of these recommendations saw the light of the day.
“The question is, what does this stand? What does Nigeria stand to benefit? How will it benefit democracy? How will it make the system better? These are the questions we are asking.

“Don’t forget that in this same Nigeria we were meant to tie every phone and every line to the National Identification Number, NIN. The government had to extend it because they couldn’t meet the deadline.

“Now we are talking about elections that affect the life of every Nigerian, that determine who becomes what in administration of Nigeria. Why the rush to pass and sign the Electoral Act?” He asked.
