A farmer, identified as Magaji Mai’aya, has been reported killed, while several others, including a police officer, sustained injuries in a farmer-herder clash in Yelwan Musari village, Guri Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

An eyewitness, Ado Musa, stated that armed herders attacked the village in Jigawa between Saturday and Sunday morning, setting homes and local rice milling factories on fire. He explained that the conflict erupted after months of tension following the killing of another farmer, Ya’u Namara, by herders last year.
According to him, “The herders blocked the Guri–Hadejia highway, preventing the residents from conveying the injured victims to Hadejia hospital for treatment after the incident.”

He added that security operatives arrived at the scene late and were unable to prevent the escalation, as both groups had been violent since Saturday afternoon.
It is not yet clear whether the herders sustained any injuries or fatalities in the clash. Musa noted that tensions had been ongoing for months, particularly after herders boycotted local markets.
The police spokesperson in the Jigawa state, Lawan Adam, could not be immediately reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
