Justice Served! 10 Bullies, Truants Punished at Varsity

The punishment was assigned to ten students of Arthur Jarvis University in Cross River State for fighting, bullying other students, and truancy.

Five students who actively participated in fighting and bullying were expelled. Others who were only somewhat involved in the crimes were suspended.

Three of the students received one-month suspension while two others were suspended for two weeks.

These affected students have since vacated the University campus.

These were detailed in a statement by the acting Registrar of the school, Lady Mary Dan-Abia.

The Registrar said the expulsion serves as a deterrent and echoing warning to others that truancy and bullying are two offenses the school will not tolerate.

Naijaeyes  learnt that the students appeared before the school disciplinary panel on Monday, January 20, 2025, after two ugly occurrences of fighting and gang bullying on December 12, 2024, and January 18, 2025.

According to Dan-Abia, only a few days before that, the Chancellor, while addressing the students, had called for a revival of moral ethics.

She further noted that the Chancellor laid emphasis on the fact that any student found guilty of drug use, drug possession, drug pedaling, or drug smuggling on campus shall be automatically expelled.

“In our view, this verdict serves both as a deterrence for other students and as a resounding reminder that respect for others and compliance with the rules of the university are non-negotiables,” she said.

“For the expelled, the suspended, and every other student, ‘no student is above the school rules'” the registrar emphasized.
