The Kano State Police Command has initiated disciplinary measures against five officers captured in a viral video allegedly assisting a politician in mobilizing people to collect cash.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, clarified that the incident occurred on July 10, 2025, following an event at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House.
He emphasized that the gathering was unrelated to the re-run and by-elections held in Kano on August 16.
“The investigation revealed that the officers were deployed for security at the event, during which they were regrettably seen engaging in unprofessional conduct,” the statement revealed.
He added that the command will not overlook misconduct.
“Appropriate disciplinary actions are being taken against the erring officers to maintain the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force,” he assured.
The spokesman also reiterated that the police remain committed to discipline and ethics.
“We want to assure the public that we will continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and retain the trust and confidence of citizens,” he added.
