The Kano State Fire Service has recorded 58 fire incidents and 13 deaths across the state in May 2026.
This was disclosed in Kano in a statement on Monday by the Public Relations Officer of the service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Director of the Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, gave the figures while presenting a summary of the agency’s operations for the month under review.
He said the service responded to a total of 80 emergency calls between May 1 and May 31, which included fire outbreaks, rescue operations, and false alarms.
“Out of the total calls received, 58 were fire incidents, 15 were rescue operations, while seven were false alarms,” he said.
Anas added that the 13 deaths recorded resulted from various incidents, including fire outbreaks, road accidents, and cases involving ponds and wells.
Despite the fatalities, he noted that firefighters successfully rescued 34 people during operations across the state.
He also stated that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire, while significant assets were saved through timely intervention by the service.
According to him, the estimated value of property lost was over ₦144 million, while about ₦437 million worth of property was saved.
Anas urged residents to prioritize fire safety and exercise caution in their daily activities to reduce avoidable incidents.
He called on the public to adopt proper fire prevention measures to avert disasters.
He further assured that the Kano State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through rapid response, awareness campaigns, and preventive strategies.
