The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been convicted on an alleged terrorism charge by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
After Nnamdi Kanu, who had publicly contested the court’s jurisdiction to render a decision in his protracted legal dispute with the Federal Government, was led out of the courtroom by security guards, the verdict was rendered early on Thursday afternoon, November 20, 2025.
This verdict by the court comes as this trial for terrorism charges leveled against Kanu has lingered for nearly 10 years.

Real Terrorism perpetrators walking free
Over the last few months, Nigeria has been bleeding over the ruthless and wicked actions of bandits and Fulani terrorists. Several regions of the country including the North-East, East and North central have been at receiving ends of this continued massacre.
Benue, Plateau, Borno, Kwara, Enugu, Anambra states among others have in recent months decried the ongoing attacks and loss of lives. Several hundreds of residents have been forced out of their homes following the surging insecurity.
The incidents of the Yelwata massacre, Otukpo among still very much live rent free in the hearts of Nigerians and while the common man is yet to recover from this, in the last few days, more tragedy has struck with the incidents of Kebbi state school girls abduction and the Kwara state church attack.

This comes amid the cries of Christian genocide that has left several more hundreds dead or displaced, running for their dear lives.
Amid all these, the Nigerian military and the federal government has made little to no progress as to resolving the terrible security state of the country. While the military at different points have stated that it has killed and ambushed terrorist group leaders across different parts of the country, these claims appear to be mere social media talks.
Recall that the issue of Christian genocide and terrorism is the very reason US president issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government to fix the insecurity in the state or risk a military invasion. However, key figures in the APC led administration have repeatedly denied the allegations of Christian genocide in the nation.

Just recently, the minister of Foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar clashed with Canadian politician over this very issue, with the minister going as far as name calling and verbal banter with the former Canadian parliament member.
In the midst of all that is ongoing, the question that remains unanswered is how is it that the federal government cannot get a hold of the real terrorism perpetrators and restore calm to the nation. This notorious bandits are widely known to posses very strong guts, some go as far as revealing their faces while on operations.
All over social media, video footages of these terrorist groups boldly carrying out their wicked agendas are scattered. How is it that they cannot be traced. Instead, what is encouraged as a solution is offering these same perpetrators peace deals and platforms for negotiation while the ‘repentant’ ones are decorated, applauded and even instituted into the military in some cases.

Its almost as though the egos of these notorious terrorists are being messaged by the very people who ought to bring them to book. Does this then go to say that these different terrorist groups have more power than the government of the federal republic of Nigeria?
Nnamdi Kanu vs Fulani Terrorists
In light of the recently passed judgment on the detained IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the government has been seen deploying all its capacity to ensure that Kanu does not walk as a free man under terrorism charges among other counts.
The Nigerian government has also demanded the imposition of death sentence on Nnamdi Kanu following his conviction on terrorism charges.

Counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, informed the court that the sections of the law under which Kanu was charged and convicted carried death sentence without any option.
Addressing the court after the pronouncement, the senior lawyer said the court has no discretion to exercise than to impose maximum punishment on him in line with the dictates of the law.
Interestingly, the real terrorists who are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of innocent Nigerian lives are walking free despite their boldness to put out their crimes on social spaces, they have somehow managed to remain untraceable and unharmed providing room for them to continue their wicked agenda.
Countless Nigerian lives slaughtered in vain
The average Nigerian is unsafe, scared for their lives. Nigerians across all ages brackets. Children, youths and even the elderlies are not left out of this madness. And yet the crisis continues, the blood bath worsens.
Lives slaughtered on the alter of corruption, selfish interest and political ambition.

Tensions are currently high with citizens expressing mixed reactions over the outcome of the Kanu trial. Hearts are heavy, families have been thrown into mourning following the most recent attacks and the ordinary Nigerian who is either helpless and left praying and hoping Nigeria does not happen to them or be forced to defend themselves at some level as it appears the government has failed the masses.
It is however still soon to tell what actions will follow this recent development of the trial.
