Public commentator Mahdi Shehu has criticised Nigerian voters, asserting that many make political choices based on current emotions rather than lessons from history.

Mahdi Shehu made the comments on Sunday in a post shared on X, responding to an old video of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu discussing governance and accountability.
In the video, Tinubu reportedly stated that Nigerians should not vote for him for a second term if he fails to deliver stable electricity within his first four years in office.

Reacting to the statement, Shehu said many Nigerians tend to forget past experiences when making electoral choices.
“Some Nigerians will still go ahead to vote for him because most Nigerians are prisoners of ‘the moment’ and never prisoners of history, even if they will be prisoners tomorrow,” he wrote.
