Kyari was reportedly invited by the commission to clarify issues surrounding financial transactions while he was at the helm of the state-owned oil company.

At the time this report was filed, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, was unavailable for comment.

The development coincides with current enquiries into purported anomalies in the handling of billions of cash intended for Nigeria’s failing refineries.

Mele Kyari had earlier been placed on the EFCC’s watch list in connection with a $7.2 billion refinery’s turnaround maintenance project.

Similarly, the Federal High Court in Abuja recently mandated that four bank accounts connected to the previous head of the NNPCL be temporarily frozen until more fraud-related enquiries are conducted.
