Backstory…
Recall that President Bola Tinubu nominated Omokri for an ambassadorial position in November 2025, alongside several other nominees, including former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu.
Following Senate confirmation of the nominees in December 2025, President Tinubu approved the postings of 65 ambassadors-designate and high commissioners in March 2026, designating Omokri to serve in Mexico City.
However, Omokri’s deployment remained uncertain for months as Mexico initially delayed sending formal notification of his approval.
In August 2026, Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Mexico and Japan were still among the nations yet to grant consent for two pending ambassadorial postings.
