Former Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mike Okiro has shared insights into the rationale behind President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint Tunji Disu as the new Inspector-General of Police.

According to reports from The Nation, Disu succeeded Kayode Egbetokun during a handing-over ceremony held in Abuja on Wednesday.
The appointment followed President Tinubu’s decoration of Disu with his new rank as acting Inspector-General of Police at the State House in Abuja.
Speaking on the development, Mike Okiro pointed out that Disu’s achievement as the Commissioner of Police for Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, may have led to his appointment as the Inspector General of Police.

“He worked as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers and the Federal Capital Territory, and I believe he did his job perfectly, that is why the President appointed him,” Okiro said.
“And I know at the end of the day, Nigerians will hail President Tinubu for appointing him as the Inspector General of Police.”
Mike Okiro added that the new IGP has a lot of work waiting for him.
“He has a lot before him, one of which is the state of the police. The state of the police is so bad, very low.
“So I praise him, and I wish him well, as I know him, to face these problems headlong. And at the end of the day, Nigerians will be happy.”
