Okey Bakassi speaks on divorce rumours

My wife and I are still very much together — Okey Bakassi breaks silence on divorce rumour

Okey Bakassi, a well-known comedian and Nollywood actor, has refuted rumors that his marriage had failed, maintaining that he and his spouse are still together.

The report, which went viral on social media, was characterized by Bakassi as fake news and an attempt to denigrate him and his family.

The comedian, however, stated in a video message that the allegations were wholly untrue and that the controversy started when a video he created on Nigerian politics was misrepresented and taken out of context.

He said: “While I was on set today filming a new movie with my colleagues, someone was busy on social media trying to disrespect me and my family.

“Someone went on social media and created an article with my name, my picture and that of my wife, alleging that we have gone our separate ways.

“And since then, friends, family and fans have been calling me from all over the world, calling my wife with this troubling news.

Bakassi noted that he and his wife recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Canada, describing his wife and children as the most important people in his life.

He further refuted the report’s assertion regarding his wife’s profession and location, clarifying that she lives in Canada rather than working as a nurse in the United States.

Condemning those who circulated the story without verifying its accuracy, the actor appealed to friends, family, and fans to report the social media account responsible for spreading the false claims.

Backstory…

His clarification comes less than twenty four hours after a report of their seperation went viral. According to the rumour, his wife moved to the US to pursue a nursing degree, but he stayed in Nigeria for 15 years, working and providing money to fund her studies, until she allegedly filed for divorce.

The report further added that Okey Bakassi said he was filing for a divorce on the grounds that they do not have a working marriage.

Meanwhile, the recent controversy comes following a previous video in which Bakassi spoke about his voting choices and the need for good leadership in Nigeria.

Recall that the comedian Okey Bakassi, popular Nollywood actor and comedian, was recently crowned as a King. He was crowned as the king of the Umuihuocha community in Imo State.
