N5.7bn Goat Scheme: Katsina Gov Empowers 3,610 Women

Dikko Umaru Radda, governor of Katsina State, flagged off the distribution of 40,000 goats under an ambitious Goat Rearing Initiative Programme with the intention of establishing the state as a leading powerhouse for livestock production.

On Monday, governor Radda addressed the beneficiaries of the programme and stakeholders in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina, articulating a transformative vision for the initiative.

“This moment marks not only a giant stride in our agricultural journey but also a transformative one toward achieving our ambition of making Katsina State a leading hub for livestock production in the northern region and across our great nation, Nigeria,” declared the governor.

The initiative specifically aims at empowering women economically through the Ministry of Women Affairs and community committees.

“The Goat Rearing Initiative which cost N5.7 billion is to empower local farmers, especially women groups, through the Ministry of Women Affairs and community-level committees by providing them with the resources, training, and support they need to rear goats successfully,” elucidated Governor Radda.

Informing the press of the total approach to the programme, Mr. Radda said there will be training in modern livestock management for extension workers.

“We will implement training programmed for our people, furnishing them with the skills required for effective breeding procedures. This training will cover key issues like animal nutrition, health management, and sustainable farming practices,” he specified.

Acknowledging that the initiative sits within the framework of national agricultural policies, Governor Radda said,

“We want to thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development in the nation,” noting that the state government “will remain steadfast in our commitment to support our farmers in every possible way.”

The people of this state will experience an upgraded economic landscape and a spatial firebreak of communities from pushing our state to the forefront in livestock production, he said. Apparently offense-optimistic about the program’s effect, closing with that, “This Goat Farming Initiative program is not any other program.

It is a shining hope for agriculture in our state.”

This, according to the State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Hadiza Yar’adua, is the very meaning of the empowerment initiative as it makes a hefty investment with deliberate consequences in economies of existence and livelihoods.

While commending the governor for this beautiful initiative through the Goat Rearing Initiative, Mrs Ya’Adua stated, “Indeed, everybody knows that Governor Radda is a force to reckon with in women empowerment not only in Katsina but the entire nation.”
