Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused security operatives of plans to arrest his elder brother, Bashir, if he had stepped foot in Nigeria for their mother’s burial.
According to El-Rufai, the plan was to detain Bashir and force him to engage in negotiations.

The African Democratic Congress(ADC) opposition leader revealed in a video that Bashir had to skip their mother’s funeral in order to avoid being arrested.
According to Nasir El-Rufai: “My elder brother Bashir El-Rufai couldn’t make it because we learned that there is a plan to arrest him because they believe if they get him, I will negotiate.”
Recall that Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, El-Rufai’s biological mother, passed away in Cairo, Egypt, on Friday. She was transported back to Abuja and buried on Sunday.

Her passing coincided with El-Rufai’s arrest and detention by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, or ICPC, on charges of money laundering and corruption.
However following her demise, the former Kaduna state governor was released temporarily from ICPC custody.

Prior to his release, on March 24, the former governor was charged with ten counts in a Federal High Court in Kaduna. The case was postponed until March 31, 2026, so that pending motions, including his plea for bail, may be heard.
