The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has said Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Peter Obi will play key roles in selecting principal officials for the party’s soon-to-be-inaugurated Presidential Campaign Council.
The party said its leadership had authorised Obi, its presidential candidate, and Kwankwaso, his running mate, to nominate candidates for several key positions on the council.
The positions include Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.
According to the NDC, Obi, Kwankwaso, National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson and other party leaders held several meetings before reaching the agreement.
The party said it developed a comprehensive organogram in August and sent it to the presidential candidate and his running mate for feedback on the proposed campaign structure. Party stakeholders across the country also submitted nominations and contributions.
Osa Director, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement that the candidates could nominate themselves.
The NDC said the party’s National Treasurer would work with the appointed Finance Director and his deputy to oversee the campaign’s finances.
Officials appointed by Obi, Kwankwaso and the National Treasurer will oversee the payment of campaign funds into a special presidential campaign account.
The party said the arrangement aims to ensure transparency in the management of campaign funds and compliance with the Electoral Act’s reporting requirements set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The council’s inauguration, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of Obi’s travel schedule.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is moving to formalise its 2027 presidential campaign structure after a disagreement over the constitution of the campaign council exposed the need for clearer coordination between the party and support groups backing Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The immediate dispute began last week when the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, a support group mobilising for the NDC presidential ticket, unveiled a 59-member campaign council.
The structure included a Director-General, national and zonal coordinators and directors responsible for areas such as mobilisation, strategy, security and legal affairs.
The NDC subsequently distanced itself from the council, with National Chairman Moses Cleopas saying the party had not authorised the movement to constitute or announce a campaign structure in its name.
The development triggered a public disagreement between the party and the support group over their respective roles in the 2027 campaign.
