The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has secured the conviction of 17 drug offenders, who were collectively sentenced to 84 years in prison.

According to a report, the convicts were also given the option of paying fines totaling N27.25 million for the various drug-related offences.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the NDLEA State Commander, Dr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, revealed that the Federal High Court sitting in Benin City handed down different prison terms to the offenders.
Ofoyeju said the judgments were delivered by Justice Prof. Chuka Obiozo and Justice B. O. Quadiri respectively in November, 2025.
He said three of the convicts are females while 14 are males. He gave the name of the female convicts as Jacob Beauty, 51, Favour Osayande, 23, and Eko Gift, 38.
The names of the 14 male convicts are Aliyu Abubakar, 23, Peter Egboko, 25, Justin John, 15, Shamsu Abdullahi, 30, Osaro Prosper, 26, Ezekiel Bishara Shedrack, 24, and Ukpono Edem Etim, 28.
Others are Ekpeakena Mike, 41, Prosper Titus, 20, Kenneth Daniel, 28, Samuel Lawrence, 25, Ogunshola Dada, 34, Osakpolor Edosomwan, 27, and Joshua Paul, 21.
The NDLEA boss in Edo State said, the sentences are to run concurrently with the option of fines.
He added that four of the judgements were passed by Justice Prof. Chuka Obiozo while 13 were by Justice B. O. Quadiri J.

He disclosed that four of the convicts got 15 years imprisonment each and with a cumulative option of fine of N12,750 million.
Reacting to the convictions, Ofoyeju said, the NDLEA will continue to intensify its operations against narcotics trafficking and consumption.
According to him, efforts will be sustained to ensure that offenders face the full weight of the law, thereby safeguarding public health and security.
While reaffirming its commitment to combating drug trafficking and unlawful possession within the state, he said all 17 convictions were recorded in the month of November.
He added that the convicts were charged in connection with various drug offences including unlawful possession, dealing, and cultivation of controlled substances, including Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, cocaine, tramadol, diazepam, danabol, and swinol tablets.
