Mathias Tsado, a former Action Democratic Party presidential candidate, has asked former President Goodluck Jonathan’s close friends and family to pressure him to run for president in 2027.

The call was made by Tsado, the Liberation Movement’s 2019 presidential candidate, in an appearance on Tuesday’s Sunrise Daily on Channels Television.

He maintained that the only way to address Nigeria’s growing security and economic issues was for Jonathan to return to office.

“We need him back in 2027. This is not about politics but about saving Nigeria. He has the experience, the temperament, and the vision to bring our country back from the brink,” Tsado said.

He added that Jonathan’s administration left behind reforms and strong democratic principles that might be resurrected to bring stability back. He pointed out that the former president is still seen as a unifying figure by many Nigerians.

Tsado emphasised that the country was at a crucial juncture and urged Jonathan’s political supporters to step up their efforts to convince him.

“Those around him should speak to him with one voice. Nigeria needs him more than ever. His leadership style is what can calm tensions and redirect the economy,” he added.

Political groups are speculating about possible candidates for the 2027 presidential election at the time of the call. Despite rumours of the former president’s possible candidacy and Jonathan’s lack of confirmation in running, Tsado maintained that the former leader was still the best option for the country’s revival.
