Nigeria National Grid Collapse Hits Power Supply Again in January 2026

Nigeria’s national electricity grid collapsed on Tuesday morning, marking the second national grid collapse recorded in January 2026. The development comes just days after the first grid failure that plunged parts of the country into darkness last Friday.

The Nigeria national grid collapse was confirmed by the Nigeria National Grid in a post shared on X at about 10:53 am. The brief update simply stated, “Grid Collapse,” signalling another major disruption to the electricity supply nationwide.

In a follow-up post, the Nigerian National Grid assured citizens that efforts were underway to restore power. The statement read, “Restoration is in progress!” as Nigerians awaited the return of electricity.

Data obtained from the Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, showed that power generation dropped to zero megawatts following the Nigeria national grid collapse. This resulted in a complete loss of supply to several distribution companies across the country.

The affected distribution firms include Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Port Harcourt, Ibadan, Abuja, and Yola. The repeated Nigeria national grid collapse has once again raised concerns over the stability of the country’s power infrastructure.
