Fake Nigerian Doctor Arrested for Treating Migrants in Libya
Sabha, Libya – Authorities have apprehended a Nigerian national posing as a medical doctor in the southwestern district of Sabha. The arrest was made by local police, who uncovered the suspect’s illegal activities involving the provision of medical treatment to migrants.
The Migrant Rescue Watch, a watchdog organization, broke the news on Saturday, July 27, 2024. According to their report, the arrest took place on July 23, 2024. The suspect had been offering medical services to the migrant community in the area without any legitimate medical qualifications.
During a police raid on the suspect’s residence, law enforcement officers discovered and confiscated a range of medical supplies that had been unlawfully obtained. These supplies were presumably used in the unauthorized treatments provided to the migrants.
The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, is currently in police custody. Authorities have initiated a criminal investigation to uncover the extent of the suspect’s activities and determine any further legal actions.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by migrants in Libya, who often resort to unlicensed medical practitioners due to a lack of accessible healthcare services. The actions of the suspect not only endangered the health of vulnerable migrants but also underscored the broader issues of medical fraud and exploitation within migrant communities.
