The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC), has raised concerns over workers welfare, further demanding a new minimum wage of N150,000 for workers in the state, citing rising costs of living and recent wage increases in Imo and Ebonyi states.
Chairperson of the Lagos state NLC, Funmi Sesi made the demand on Thursday in response to the upward wage review by the two states.

According to Sesi, Lagos workers presently receive N85,000 as the minimum wage, and they should be paid more to reflect the state’s rising costs for utilities, housing, transportation, and food.
“The time has come for an upward review of minimum wage in Lagos. At least someone has taken the bull by the horns and opened the space,” she said.

She also emphasised that no one could hold Governor Sanwo-Olu responsible if he implemented a higher salary for Lagos workers, emphasising that they should be paid more and have good working conditions that are in line with the city’s economic realities.
The head of the State NLC was hopeful that all state governments will follow Imo’s and Ebonyi’s example.

Recall that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma had previously declared raising the minimum salary for state public officials from N76,000 to N104,000 begining from August.
Similarly, the Ebonyi government increased the minimum salary for its employees from N70,000 to N90,000.
