The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has stated that the resignation of its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, did not come as a surprise.

In a statement released on Sunday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Karaye, the NNPP confirmed receipt of Kwankwaso’s resignation letter, noting that the development had been anticipated.
The party explained that the move followed ongoing consultations among opposition parties aimed at forming a stronger alliance ahead of upcoming elections.
According to the NNPP, the decision is part of broader efforts to unite opposition forces and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), with the goal of repositioning the country.
Despite his resignation, the party commended Kwankwaso for his contributions to the growth and development of the NNPP over the past three years.

“We thank the National Leader for contributing to the strength of the party as one of the country’s prominent opposition platforms,” the statement said.
It added that during his time with the party, the NNPP recorded significant political gains, including producing a governor, senators, members of the House of Representatives, and several state assembly members.
The party also wished him well in his future political journey.
“We wish him success in the 2027 general election and in his future political endeavours,” the statement added.
