Ahead of next week’s Christmas celebrations, the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has deployed over 1,200 personnel across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Akintayo Saidi Ayinla, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Thursday in Benin City.
Ayinla explained that the deployment of NSCDC aims to ensure adequate security before, during, and after the Christmas and New Year festivities.
He added that the deployment is part of the Command’s proactive strategy to safeguard lives, property, and critical national assets throughout the festive period.
He said the personnel were drawn from various tactical and operational units of the Corps.
The Commandant said the personnel were drawn from Counter-Terrorism Squad, Anti-Vandal Unit, Female Squad, Agro-Rangers, Commandant Monitoring and Surveillance Team, as well as Mining Marshals, among others.
He explained that the operatives have been strategically deployed to key locations across the state such as places of worship and prayer grounds, recreational and event centres, major highways, markets, and other strategic and vulnerable points to prevent criminal activities and ensure public safety.

The Commandant assured residents of the State of the Command’s commitment to providing a secure and conducive environment that will allow citizens and visitors to celebrate the season without fear.
While warning criminal elements to stay away from the state, he stressed that the Corps will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone found breaching the law.
He, however, enjoined members of the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant, and to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid in crime prevention and swift response.
