Leading a delegation to Jalingo alongside officials from the Lee Group, NSDC Executive Secretary and CEO, Kamar Bakrin, sought the support of Governor Agbu Kefas and the Taraba State Government for the initiative.

Bakrin described the project as a major investment that will greatly enhance Nigeria’s sugar production capacity, reduce dependence on imports, and drive economic growth.

He highlighted that NSDC’s role includes supporting investors through financing, feasibility studies, technical training, research, and land access.

“Sugar is a major socio-economic commodity globally, supporting about 100 million jobs across more than 120 countries. Sugar estates also promote rural development and environmental sustainability,” Bakrin said.

He noted that Taraba State “passed all technical and environmental suitability assessments”, making it an ideal location for large-scale sugar production.

Bakrin also confirmed that Lee Group, through its subsidiary GNAAL Sugar, met all requirements as a credible investor with both financial and technical capacity.

In response, Governor Agbu Kefas expressed the state government’s full support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment.

He described Taraba as rich in natural resources, with vast fertile land suitable for agricultural ventures.

Governor Kefas added that the state has overcome previous security challenges and is now stable and safe for investors, urging business stakeholders to capitalise on the opportunities available in the state’s agricultural sector, particularly in sugar production.
