Obama Criticises Trump Over Iran War and Rising Prices

Former US President Barack Obama criticized President Donald Trump over the Iran war and rising consumer prices on Saturday while campaigning for Democratic candidates ahead of the November midterm elections.

Speaking at rallies in Ohio and Michigan, Obama urged voters to use the elections to hold the Trump administration accountable, framing the vote as an opportunity to rein in what he termed executive excesses.

“This election is our last best chance to at least rein in some of the foolishness of this administration,” Obama told supporters in Ohio.

The upcoming midterm elections on November 3 will determine which party controls the US Congress for the remainder of Trump’s term. The final results will likely impact how easily the president can implement his legislative agenda.

Early voting has already started. On Saturday, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump cast their ballots in West Palm Beach, Florida, before heading to Georgia to support Republican candidates.

Obama admitted that voters’ distaste for Democrats in the 2024 presidential election was influenced by economic worries, especially inflation and the growing cost of living.

He countered that Americans were still under financial strain since Trump’s measures had not addressed these issues.

“If you thought everything was too expensive before ‘you know who’,” Obama said, referring to Trump without mentioning his name, “everything is more expensive now”.

These statements coincide with mounting pressure on the administration to demonstrate concrete achievements in national security and the economy as rising oil prices strain household budgets.

Trump defends tariffs

Additionally, Trump defended his tariff measures, arguing that they generate substantial revenue for the country.

He reiterated his proposal to distribute $5,000 to every adult American if Republicans retain control of both houses of Congress—a plan that requires legislative authorization and a clear funding source.

Trump also accused Democrats of promoting immigration policies that compromise national border security.

During the event, Trump disparaged several nations and questioned why the United States accepts immigrants from those countries rather than from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark.

US Midterms

This clash demonstrates how aggressive campaign advertising and personal attacks have saturated the broader political struggle leading up to the midterm elections.

The upcoming November 3 elections will determine control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, shaping the political landscape for the final two years of Trump’s term.

Democrats seek to reclaim legislative majorities to strengthen their ability to oppose administration policies, while Republicans fight to retain control of both chambers.

Obama’s return to the campaign trail highlights Democratic efforts to mobilize voters around the Iran War, economic conditions, and growing concerns over executive overreach.

Trump, meanwhile, urges supporters to back Republican candidates by highlighting his trade and immigration record while promising further financial benefits.
