Human rights lawyer and activist, Chidi Odinkalu, has claimed that he once narrowly escaped an abduction, accusing former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai of hypocrisy over his recent assertions about due process.

Odinkalu made the allegation on Saturday in a post on X, where he reacted to what he described as El-Rufai’s latest public stance portraying himself as a defender of due process.
It will be recalled that El-Rufai recently alleged that security operatives attempted to arrest him upon his return from Cairo at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
Reacting in a post, Odinkalu said that while El-Rufai, now presents himself as a champion of legality, however, events during his time in office told a different story.

He alleged that in the case of a police officer, he had never met intervened after discovering plans that could have led to his abduction.
“Today, the #VileLittleMan, @elrufai, is an apostle of due process, spreading spittle from studio to studio,” Odinkalu wrote. “In my case, it was a police officer I had never met who saw what they were cooking up who made the call that almost assuredly saved me from abduction at his hands.”
