    Tension has been reported across Roro village, along Mile 8, in the Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State, over the brutal murder of a  a cattle herders son by a farmer. 

    The herdsman had reported his son missing and as search efforts intensified, rumours of an impending Fulani herder invasion started to emerge.

    The child’s body was eventually discovered in a shallow grave after the police, hunters, and locals came together to find him.

    According to information obtained, local authorities recommended that everyone take an oath promising to divulge the truth within seven days.

    However, a farmer and hunter identified as Taiwo Amos, confessed to carrying out the murder before the oath was taken.

    “I came back from church, stood up and went to check on my trap. When I got to the bush I saw him(herds-boy) from a distance and a thought just came to my mind, telling me to go and kill him.

    “I hurriedly went after him and killed him, it was after I killed him I saw a lot of cows scattered,” he confessed.

    When asked if the cows ate his plants causing him to act out of annoyance, he responded saying, “He didn’t offend me at all, to be honest even his cows did not eat my crops”.

    The incident caused tension in the neighbourhood and raised concerns about whether the suspect’s actions were the result of deliberate violence or a spiral into lunacy.

    Amos claimed that he made his confession because he was terrified of the oath and didn’t want his children or innocent people to suffer, despite his insistence that he acted alone.

    The incident caused tension in the neighbourhood and raised concerns about whether the suspect’s actions were motivated by deliberate brutality or a spiral into lunacy.

    It was discovered that the farmer and his son had previously advised the herdsman to stop grazing on their property and relocate his cow herds from the region, but the victim was said to have disregarded their advice.

    The victim allegedly ignored the farmer and son’s earlier warning to the herdsman to stop grazing on their land and remove his cow herds from the region.

    In the wake of the recent murder, Lanre Ogunlowo, the State Commissioner of Police, has urged locals to be calm and assured them that peace has completely restored to the neighbourhood.

    Amos, who maintained that he acted alone, clarified that he confessed because he was terrified of the oath and didn’t want his kids or innocent people to suffer.

    According to Ogunlowo, the cutlass and dane gun used in the procedure were found, and the culprit was under arrest.
