Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has alleged that soldiers were trying to prevent him from entering Osun State ahead of the Osun 2026 governorship election.
In an early Saturday post on his verified X account, Davido said he had received information that soldiers were attempting to stop him from entering the state, insisting that every Nigerian has the right to freedom of movement.
His claim came hours after the Nigeria Police Force announced restrictions on movement across Osun State from 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as authorities tightened security for the election.
Security arrangements for the election include the deployment of thousands of police officers and other security personnel.
Ademola Adeleke (Davido), nephew of the incumbent governor, has been actively involved in his uncle’s re-election campaign under the Accord Party.
In this off-cycle governorship race, the governor is seeking a second term, competing against Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside other candidates.
The musician’s social media statement quickly generated widespread online attention and drew mixed reactions.
In response, former presidential communications assistant Bashir Ahmad characterized Davido’s statement as dramatic, noting that security agencies had previously announced travel restrictions across the state to ensure a peaceful election.
He wrote, “You are just dramatic, @davido. It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election.”
‘Use front camera’ – Davido reacts to BVAS issues
In a more recent development, Davido, has urged election officials to use the front camera on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, when its main camera is not working in the ongoing Osun governorship election.
On Saturday, August 15, 2026, while voting was underway across the state, Davido made the call in a statement shared via his official X handle.
The front camera, which the musician noted was highly effective and fast, could be used as an alternative.
“If your BVAS camera is not working, please tell the officials to use front camera. It is very active and fast!” Davido wrote.
In a separate tweet, the singer also urged voters to remain at their polling units until votes are uploaded on the IREV portal.

Meanwhile, Reports have emerged regarding alleged voter importation in Osun State ahead of the Osun election 2026 election, following the reported arrest of over one hundred prospective voters brought in by an Accord Party member.
Sources indicate that representatives from both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party allegedly engaged in vote-buying tactics, offering voters amounts between ₦10,000 and ₦20,000.
