The Osun State House of Assembly has officially denied claims circulating on social media suggesting plans to rotate the chairmanship of the state’s traditional council.

The clarification comes after a post appeared on a Facebook page called “Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba,” which implied that the legislature was reviewing correspondence regarding the matter.
In a statement on Monday, Speaker Adewale Egbedun, through his Chief Press Secretary, Olamide Tiamiyu, described the online report as false and unrelated to the activities of the Osun State Assembly.
The statement said the information being shared did not originate from any recognised channel of the Osun House of Assembly.
According to the statement, “there has been no communication submitted to, received by, or acknowledged within the legislative chamber regarding the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers in the state.”
It added that “no committee of the House, including the Committee on Chieftaincy Matters, has discussed or scheduled deliberations on such an issue.”
Also, Speaker Egbedun, dismissed the report as a fabrication designed to mislead the public.
“This claim is entirely false and a complete fabrication. Neither the Speaker nor the Osun State House of Assembly received or authorised any correspondence on the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers,” he said.
He stated that the alleged subject matter has never featured in the Assembly’s proceedings and stressed that the House conducts its legislative business strictly in line with constitutional provisions and established procedures.
“Such a matter has never come before the House in any form,” the Speaker said.
Egbedun also cautioned against the spread of unverified information on sensitive cultural and traditional matters.

“This is a calculated act of mischief designed to misinform the public and provoke unnecessary tension,” he said.
The Assembly while expressing concern that the Facebook page involved was presenting unsubstantiated claims as fact, without reference to official records, noted that misinformation of this nature could undermine public confidence in democratic institutions if left unchecked.
Members of the public were therefore urged to ignore the publication and similar content from unverified sources.
“Only statements issued through the official and verified communication channels of the Osun State House of Assembly should be regarded as authentic,” the statement said.
The Speaker reassured residents of the state of his commitment to transparency and accountability in legislative affairs.
He added that the Assembly would continue to protect its institutional integrity against misinformation, fake news and malicious falsehoods.
