Suspected Fulani herdsmen have been reported said to have killed three people in fresh attacks in the Mshen hamlet of Nyihemba, located in the Mbaikyor Ward of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State, on their way back from Jato-Aka Market.

The accused Fulani bandits made away the victims’ money and belongings.

He stated that young people from the neighborhood protested by bringing the victims’ bodies to the military camp, claiming that they had failed to protect them.

According to him: “Two victims, a housewife and a petty female trader, Andeh Aondover, as well as a motorcycle rider, Boki Tyodzua, were ambushed and killed by herdsmen. The herders removed all the money on Tyodzua and carted away all items bought by Andeh after killing them.”

He stated that farmers in the area were yet to begin clearing their farmlands because those who attempted to do so were killed by herdsmen, adding that no one had seen their corpses to date.

Following this, a Methodist bishop reacting to the continuous attacks across Benue, Plateau and others, Sunday Ndukwo Onuoha has stated that if the problem of farmers’ and herders’ conflicts in different regions of the country is not addressed, there will be more food insecurity in the country.
He added that the federal government’s inability to address the crises comprehensively has given stubborn herders more confidence to carry on wreaking havoc across the nation.

“Failure to speak in tandem with commensurate punishment to those hiding under the guise of herders has further led to the massacre of farmers and destruction of farmlands”, Bishop Onuoha warned.
