Yesterday’s attempts by an unidentified individual to bring improvised explosive devices (IEDs) into Mogadishu Barracks in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, and wreak havoc were foiled by alert military police and intelligence officers.
The carrier was instructed to move away from the distant military post near the bridge bypass by military officers who were suspicious of the load he was carrying, and as a result, the IED detonated.

According to sources who spoke to news correspondents, the IED detonated seconds later, killing the carrier and leaving two unfortunate victims injured. They were subsequently sent to a military hospital for medical attention.
However, Abuja police confirmed the incident, stating that there was an explosion close to the Mararaba-Nyanya bypass. They also stated that one person who was hurt in the explosion was being treated at a hospital, and the scene was cordoned off for forensic examination.
“On May 26, 2025, at around 2:50 pm, the FCT police command received a distress report regarding an explosion along Mararaba-Nyanya bypass,” stated SP Josephine Adeh, the command’s spokesperson.
“Upon receipt of the report, officers of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD, unit were immediately deployed to the scene.
“The affected area was swiftly cordoned off for clearance and analysis to ensure the safety of commuters and residents.
“One male victim was rescued at the scene and promptly taken to the hospital where he is currently receiving medical attention.
