Liu Hongwu, Director of the Institute of African Studies at Zhejiang Normal University in China, spoke on behalf of Yuqing, who was optimistic that the facility would strengthen ties between China and Nigeria.

She further revealed plans to launch the “China Window,” a platform that will provide Nigerians with greater access to Chinese language, culture, and educational possibilities.

“The centre will further strengthen educational and cultural exchanges between China and Nigeria, providing UNIPORT students with greater access to Chinese resources, training, and opportunities,”

“Our aim is to open a window through which Nigerians can gain a better understanding of China” she said.

This is a component of our continuous efforts to improve our cultural and educational connections with Africa, especially with organisations like UNIPORT,” she continued.

Yuqing said he was hopeful the collaboration will benefit both nations in the long run.

In response, UNIPORT Vice-Chancellor Owunari Georgewill praised the Chinese government for their ongoing interest in Africa, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, education, and culture.

In addition, he expressed gratitude to the Chinese Consulate for choosing UNIPORT above other Niger Delta universities and assured them of the university’s complete support for the Chinese Center’s success.

“This is part of our broader initiative to expand our academic offerings to students and to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s evolving labour market,” he said.

According to the UNIPORT VC, the center’s creation marks a critical turning point in the university’s initiatives to develop collaboration and cross-cultural contact with China.
