The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that on Saturday, August 16, 2025, by-elections will be held in all impacted constituencies.
This was revealed by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman at the consultative meeting with political parties on Thursday in Abuja.

The elections are expected to be conducted to fill the seats in the National and State Assemblies that have become vacant as a result of resignations, deaths, or court annulments.

The commission stated that it would deploy 30,451 officials for the exercise. INEC also announced the resumption of the Continuous Voter Registration CVR nationwide from August 18.
According to the INEC chairman, the election will be conducted in Ibadan North Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Ikenne/Shagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State, and others.
Recall that he death of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, left the Ibadan North seat empty.
Akinremi passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the age of 51. He was running for a second term in office on the APC platform.

Similarly, following Oriyomi Onanuga’s demise in January 2025, the Ikenne /Sagamu/Remo North, Ogun seat also became vacant among other vacant seats in the NASS.
Mahmood further stated that going by the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the Federal Capital Territory FCT Area Council elections, party primaries end on Monday, June 30, 2025.
