Parents of candidates who were affected by the error from JAMB that caused a problem in the 2025 Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination(UTME) have requested that the scheduled retake, which is scheduled to start today, be postponed until June 2025.
A message published on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board’s official X handle on Thursday. “…all the affected candidates will be contacted to reprint their examination slips towards retaking their examinations starting from 16th May, 2025 (today),”

After receiving notified for the test, one of the impacted students shared the SMS he received on X.
“You have been scheduled to sit the 2025 UTME Resit examination slated for Friday, May 16, 2025 by 12:00 pm. To know your centre, reprint your Examination slip by visiting…” the message read.
In an interview with newsmen on Thursday, some of the parents mentioned the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination(WAEC), the candidates’ unpleasant experiences, and the distance to the testing locations, among other problems.
A computer glitch that impacted more than 300,000 applicants who took the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination was acknowledged by JAMB on Wednesday.
At a press conference, professor Ishaq Oloyede, the JAMB Registrar, expressed profound sadness for what he called a disappointing setback in the exercise, which had been regarded as one of the most successful in recent years before to the incident.

Following this Parents of candidate have demanded that the UTME retake be moved to avoid it clashing with WAEC.
“This is not fair. You can’t say the children have to sit the examination immediately. They are currently doing WAEC. We got a text today (Thursday) saying he has to sit the examination on Saturday. Meanwhile, he is already in Ibadan. How will he rush down to Lagos because his centre is in Lagos, and then rush back to school? This is unfair.

“No one cares about the psychological trauma on these children. This was no fault of theirs, why should they be made to suffer consequences for what they know not?” a parent queried.
Meanwhile, The Nigerian National Parent Teacher Association though acknowledging the delicate nature of the situation, has urged parents to cooperate with the JAMB to make sure that the retake for pupils who were impacted by the error went well.
