Kim Jong-un’s new North Korean warship capsizes and sinks in front of him
The outlet reported that a serious accident occurred during the ceremony on Wednesday.
According to a statement from KCNA, the accident was caused by poor command and operational negligence. This led to the failure of the parallel movement of the bogies, resulting in the launching sled at the stern detaching first and causing the ship to capsize.
The ship’s balance was compromised due to a rupture in certain sections of the hull, preventing the bow from detaching from the keel.
Kim expressed his dissatisfaction with the incident, stating, “This is a serious accident and a criminal act that should never have happened. It is intolerable due to sheer carelessness, irresponsibility, and unscientific practices,” as reported by the agency.
He emphasized that the urgent repair of the destroyer is not just a practical matter but a political one that directly affects the country’s authority.
He insisted that the repairs must be completed unconditionally before the June plenary session of the Central Committee of the Party.
The ship involved in the launching ceremony appears to be of the same class as the 5,000-ton destroyer Choi Hyun-ho, which North Korea launched last month.
Jo Chun Ryong, a secretary in the ruling Workers’ Party, claimed that the ship was equipped with the most advanced weapons and was constructed in just over 400 days.
