In a series of tanker accidents and explosions in the first quarter of 2025, another explosion was recorded in the early hours of Sunday morning at Kontagora, Niger State.
The explosion rocked the residents living around the area, causing a traffic jam for motorists, and to avoid panic, residents were advised to remain in their homes while the state’s emergency services handled the fire situation.
According to eyewitness reports, the incident happened close to the AA Rano fueling station, which is located directly opposite Kontagora General Hospital. There were no casualties recorded from the explosion.
Eyewitnesses who were interviewed by the newsmen described the incidents and explained how the tanker suddenly burst into flames while parked. This caused a whole lot of smoke to be in the air.

The state’s firefighters and emergency responders, who arrived at the scene, managed to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other flammable structures or materials.
Hussaini Ibrahim, the Director of Information at the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), while speaking to newsmen, assured them that only the tanker was destroyed and that no life or property was destroyed. He confirmed the situation is now under control.

The authorities are yet to determine what caused the explosion, but many are suggesting it’s either an electrical or mechanical fault in contact with some fuel leakage.
