According to Aviation International News, the HondaJet reached speeds of over 153 mph on a 5,100-foot runway before taxiing approximately 1,300 feet from the end. The jet then slowed to around 118 mph by the runway’s end. Ian Petchenik, a spokesman for Flightradar24, a real-time air traffic monitoring service, said the HondaJet was traveling at 78.25 mph at its last reported position before the collision.
It wasn’t immediately evident why the jet couldn’t take off. The National Transportation Safety Board is handling the inquiry, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration and Mesa authorities.
Four of the five passengers on the jet perished on the scene, Mesa police confirmed Wednesday. The unidentified pilot was hospitalised with significant burns injuries. Graham Kimball, 12, was on the plane with his 44-year-old father, Drew Kimball.
