The Oyo trio are reportedly set to resign before March 31, in compliance with a directive issued earlier this week by the President.

It was gathered that Tinubu had instructed all political appointees interested in contesting elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before the deadline. The directive was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the Head of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), Dewan Goshit.

Sources indicate that those expected to resign include Adebayo Adelabu, Adebayo Shittu, and Rauf Olaniyan, all of whom are gubernatorial aspirants under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The three are said to be preparing to exit their current roles to pursue their governorship ambitions in the 2027 elections in Oyo State.

Adelabu, an indigene of Ibadan, currently serves as Minister of Power, having been appointed in 2023. Shittu, from Saki in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone, is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Ebonyi State, and previously served as Minister of Communications under former President Muhammadu Buhari. He was appointed to his current role in June 2024.

Olaniyan, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, currently serves as Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, a position he assumed in July 2024.

Although none of the three individuals has officially resigned as of the time of this report, they are expected to do so soon in line with the directive and their political ambitions.
