Papaya Ex Police Assault Allegation Sparks Reaction From Lagos Police Command
Popular Nigerian content creator and influencer, Papaya Ex, has been involved in a police assault allegation that has generated widespread reactions after the Nigerian content creator accused officers of the Lagos State Police Command of assaulting her during a late-night encounter.
The influencer explained that the incident happened on Friday night while she was returning from a shoot. Speaking during a TikTok live session, Papaya Ex appeared with a bleeding face and detailed her version of the police assault.
In the viral video, she accused some police officers of hitting her face with a gun, assaulting her breast, and beating up her driver. The footage captured one of the officers inside her vehicle while others stood in front of the car.
Although the alleged assault was not directly captured in the video, Papaya Ex was seen with visible injuries, including a noticeable wound on her face. The police assault allegation has quickly trended on social media and is now drawing mixed reactions from Nigerians.
Reacting to the claims, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, shared the command’s account of the incident on social media.
“Just before 2 a.m., police on night patrol stopped a car conveying three men and two women for a routine check. She bluntly refused, saying, ‘You cannot search my car. Don’t you know Papaya? Even your bosses know me.’
“She then chose to drive to the station. Her vehicle was ahead while the patrol vehicle followed behind. She instructed her driver to speed off, leaving the patrol vehicle far behind. At that rate, the patrol van was going to lose them, so the police had to radio the patrol team far ahead to intercept them. That was when the live session began,” Hundeyin stated.
He concluded, “@LagosPoliceNG will take it from here.”
As the Papaya Ex police assault allegation continues to dominate conversations online, many Nigerians are calling for a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
