Chief Samuel Ortom, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State and the state’s most recent governor, has reaffirmed his resolve to fortify the party in order to regain control of the state by 2027.

While addressing PDP G-14 members and other important party stakeholders from the 14 local government areas in Zones A and B of the state, Chief Ortom made this statement at his Judges Quarters home in Makurdi.

Chief Ortom reiterated his commitment to the party, refuting rumours circulated by “mischief makers” on his purported intention to leave the party. He emphasised that the party will come out stronger and more cohesive before the 2027 elections.

The former governor urged stakeholders to stay steadfast and dedicated to rebuilding the PDP, saying that even though he would not run for office himself, he would firmly support the party’s candidates to record victories. He advised PDP candidates to consult widely and not be deterred by the surge of defections to the ruling party.

Speaking on behalf of the forum, Dr. Laha Dzever, the head of the PDP G-14, expressed gratitude for Chief Ortom’s “purposeful leadership” and promised to remain faithful to him.

He stated that this was required to guarantee the party’s triumph and to continue Chief Ortom’s endeavours to fortify the PDP. Additionally, Ashongo asked others to follow Ortom’s example and praised him for his sacrifices on behalf of the party.
