Obi Denies LP Fraud Allegations, Sets Condition to End Campaign

Former Anambra State governor and 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC), presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that he would end his campaigns if anyone can provide evidence that he took 1% of Labour Party donation.

Peter Obi made the vow on Tuesday during  an exclusive interview on Nevon Media hosted by Oseni Rufai.

The NDC flag bearer made the vow while reacting to an allegation that he and human rights activist, Aisha Yesufu, siphoned Labour Party’s donations for the 2023 general elections.

He said, “I don’t go by people talking nonsensical and listen to them. He said that we took from Labour Party’s account 10 billion naira or $30 million. Where is the account?

“I’m going to include every accuser very soon in the list of the people I want to come out and prove that I took money from the Labour Party’s account or any financial mismanagement allegation.

“Look, if anyone can prove that I took 1% of Labour Party’s donations, I will stop campaigning,”

BACKSTORY…

Obi’s reaction comes following a previous report alleging that he syphoned Labour Party’s donations for the 2023 general elections.

In 2023, the spokesperson for the Lamidi Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi disclosed the allegations in a statement. However, the Julius Abure faction of the party declined to respond to the claims at the time.

The Labour Party faction claimed that “Peter Obi fraudulently converted all monies due to its agents across the country and they all refuse to represent the party at all pooling units.”

The faction further  said, “Some of us have been saying that Peter Obi decided to go to the tribunal to justify all the money he collected during the campaign. All that money was corruptly siphoned,” the Labour Party faction stated. “Thus, our previous position has now been confirmed that Peter Obi was just all out to defraud our party of donations made towards 2023 general election which was in a scary sum of $15 million and N12 billion that Peter Obi deliberate (sic) used for (sic) cure Abure poverty lineage and help other Julius Abure IPOB irresponsible ethnic irredeemable irredentist supporters to have a lifeline.”
