Ahead of the 2027 general election, Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed concerns about his safety, saying he is unsure whether he will still be alive.
Obi made the remarks on Thursday during an interview with Arise TV. The former Anambra State governor said he had faced several petitions and investigations.
He added that he did not know what the future held for him.
“As I speak to you, I have also been petitioned, I’ve been investigated everywhere. Like I said before, I’m not even sure whether I’ll still be alive at the end of this,” he said.
Obi urged politicians to permit a calm and democratic atmosphere prior to the polls, saying he was depending on God for protection.
“I’m praying to God for His protection because at this stage, I’m not sure what is happening,” he added.
Additionally, he urged governors to allow presidential candidates and other political contenders to campaign freely in their states.
He said governors had the right to support candidates of their choice while allowing other politicians to campaign.
Recalling his tenure as governor of Anambra State, Obi said he allowed politicians from other parties to campaign in the state, even when they supported his opponents.

Peter Obi’s latest comment about not being sure he will be alive by the 2027 election comes after he had raised a similar concern months earlier, as political activity around the presidential contest intensified.
In July 2026, the former Anambra State governor told media personality Chude Jideonwo that he might not survive until the election. Obi said he had experienced pressure and alleged that actions by the Federal Government had affected his activities and business interests.
He did not provide evidence to establish a threat to his life, while the government did not publicly accept the allegations.
