Popular Nigerian music star and one-half of the now-defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, stirred has reactions on social media after announcing that he is changing his birthday date.
In a post shared on Monday afternoon via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the singer wrote simply, “I am officially changing my birthday date.
“I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day.
“My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding.”
However, Peter—who has remained in the public spotlight for his music career and the widely reported family disputes within the Okoye household—did not provide any further explanation for the decision.
Peter Okoye rose to fame as one half of the award-winning music group P-Square, which he formed with his twin brother Paul Okoye (Rudeboy).
The duo dominated African pop music in the 2000s and early 2010s with a string of hit singles before internal conflicts led to their split.
Around 2015, disagreements over management—particularly involving their older brother Jude Okoye, who handled their business affairs—triggered the group’s first major breakup.
Eventually, problems with royalties, creative control, and family meddling widened the divide.
Both brothers went on to pursue solo careers under the names Mr. P and Rudeboy, respectively, when the trio formally broke up in 2017.
But in November 2021, the twins briefly reunited after years apart, an emotional reunion that delighted audiences throughout Africa and beyond.
Despite the reunion, the duo still battled underlying conflicts over corporate structures related to their music catalogue, royalty among others.
