Petrol price hike across Nigeria further worsens as retail prices have increased across stations backed by the Dangote Refinery, including MRS outlets in Nigeria.
A market survey conducted on Sunday revealed that filling stations in Abuja and neighboring districts raised the price of gasoline from N1,370 to N1,409 per liter.
The update represents a N39 per liter price hike implemented by MRS stations over the weekend.
Outlets operating in Kubwa, Katampe, Gwarimpa, and other areas within the Federal Capital Territory have already adjusted their pumps to reflect the new rate.
In a similar trend, fuel outlets operating under Ranoil and AA Rano adjusted their gasoline prices upward by N10 per liter, moving from N1,400 to N1,410 across their locations.
The price increases coincide with a proposal from the Federal Government, announced by Minister of Finance Taiwo Oyedele, aiming to lower the retail price of gasoline at Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) stations to N1,350 per liter.
In response, petroleum marketers and independent distributors have urged the federal government to extend the price reduction policy beyond state-owned outlets to cover all private filling stations nationwide.
The sudden upward adjustment follows a brief period of steady declines in pump prices over the preceding week.

Backstory…
The latest petrol price increase by MRS and other filling stations comes after a series of upward adjustments by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, which have pushed up wholesale petrol prices and forced retailers to review their pump prices.
On August 21, 2026, Dangote Refinery raised its petrol gantry price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 per litre. It subsequently increased the rate to ₦1,200 on August 26, ₦1,265 on August 29, and ₦1,350 on September 12. The successive adjustments added ₦185 per litre to the refinery’s gantry price in just over three weeks.
The changes quickly reached filling stations. On September 13, checks by the News Agency of Nigeria, reported by Premium Times, showed MRS outlets in Abuja raising petrol from ₦1,350 to ₦1,395 per litre. NIPCO increased its price to ₦1,430, while Mobil outlets raised theirs to ₦1,400 per litre
