The Plateau State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has submitted a petition to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the Department of State Services (DSS), and Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), raising concerns over what it described as repeated attacks on herders and alleged cattle poisoning in parts of the state, particularly Barkin Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas.

The petition, dated April 23, 2026, and signed by the state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, said the association was forced to raise the alarm due to what it called increasing threats to the safety and livelihoods of Fulani herders in the affected communities.

In the document made available on Monday, titled “Urgent Complaint on Repeated Killing of Herders and Cattle,” MACBAN alleged a series of incidents recorded between April 18, 20, 22, and 23, 2026, across different communities in Barkin Ladi, which it described as a worrying pattern of targeted attacks on herders and their livestock.

The MACBAN association claimed that on April 18, about 10 cows were poisoned in Rakung village, while another cow was killed in the same area on April 20. It further alleged that nine cattle were poisoned in the Lokojora area on April 22, while additional cases of poisoning were recorded along the Nding axis on April 22 and 23.

“These acts of deliberate poisoning and killing of Fulani herders’ cattle have caused serious economic losses for our members and raised concerns about their wider impact on livelihoods, food security, and community relations,” the petition stated.

Babayo expressed regret that despite reports of the incidents to security agencies, no arrests had been made so far.

The MACBAN association called on security agencies to investigate the allegations, prevent further occurrences, and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice. It also urged the state government to provide support to affected herders.

While appealing for a thorough investigation, MACBAN urged its members to remain calm and law-abiding, warning that restraint is necessary to prevent escalation and protect ongoing peace efforts in the state.
