Plateau Plateau Residents Slam Tinubu for Addressing Attack Victims at Airport

Following President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the state on Thursday to offer condolences to the victims of the Palm Sunday attack in Gari Yawaye, a community in Angwan Rukuba of Jos North Local Government Area where over thirty people were killed and numerous others were injured, some Plateau State residents have strongly berated Tinubu.

However, the President’s post-violence visit to the state ended up at the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang, some 100 kilometres away from the attack location, where he delivered a speech before leaving the state.

Many locals, however, believed that the President’s visit lacked the compassion one would expect from a leader.

Many argued he ought to have gone to the hospital to see the victims or travelled to the impacted city.

Some disappointed locals, who expressed their opinions on social media, question why Tinubu would speak to people at the airport when the actual victims were far away.

A Facebook user, Kachollom Luka was the first to launch the attack with this Facebook post:

Plateau Plateau Residents Slam Tinubu for Addressing Attack Victims at Airport

“Welcome to Heipang Airport of Plateau State, Mr. President. Are the injured victims of the attack, currently receiving treatment in the hospital, being transported there for your viewing? Should you not be visiting the victims in the hospital? It is well with all of us in this country.”

In a separate post, the Facebook user also disclosed that the Plateau State’s National Assembly members, federal appointees, and former elected representatives collectively donate N5 million to Jos attack victims.

Thank God that you people are beginning to realize what I’ve been saying all these while without being sentimental- Thomas Moses

“His coming is more of a waste of our resources. Since our governor had traveled and informed him of what befell us, his coming doesn’t make much sense. The governor had told him that the steps taken were a waste of resources.

“Was the president not the one who, before the election, came and danced mokossa with us on the Plateau? Today, the same people he danced with in their woe are not worthy of empathy in their woes and sorrow. He chose to stay a stone’s throw away and apply healing balm on the land.
