The Nigeria Police Force has announced a major operational breakthrough following the successful rescue of all victims abducted during the Otukpo incident.

The incident involved passengers from a Benue Links bus and took place on April 15, 2026.
In a statement issued by DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the Force Public Relations Officer, he explained that acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the Benue State Police Command carried out coordinated clearance operations across the Amla Forest axis and surrounding areas.
He added that the operation led to the safe rescue of the remaining 13 victims, including eight students who were on their way to Otukpo to sit for their UTME examinations.
“In total, all 18 passengers have now been accounted for. Each rescued individual has undergone medical evaluation, is currently in stable condition, and will be reunited with their families after debriefing,” he stated.
He further explained that seven suspects were arrested during the operation, three of whom have been positively identified as members of the kidnapping syndicate.
Investigations are ongoing to track down other accomplices and dismantle the wider criminal network behind the attack.
The suspects are currently in custody and are being interrogated in line with legal procedures.

According to Mr. Placid, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, praised the professionalism, resilience, and bravery exhibited by the officers and personnel of the Benue State Command.
He stated that the Police IGP has instructed the intensification of clearance operations within the Otukpo area to ensure the safety and security of the communities.
He reassured Nigerians of the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the nation.
