A fresh twist has hit the political crisis between FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following the arrest of a Port Harcourt–based medical doctor and pastor over an alleged plot to assassinate the former Rivers governor.
SaharaReporters was informed by security sources that Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, a physician and the founder of Life Forte Chapel Church in Port Harcourt, has been detained by members of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) for allegedly plotting Nyesom Wike’s murder.
The sources claim that Gbeneol was arrested after a phone call between him and Dr. Tammy Danagogo, the former Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), was intercepted.

“The content of the call was considered a grave national security threat,” a senior security source said. “That was what triggered the immediate action by the IRT.”
The suspects allegedly discussed a plan to send in Israeli nationals to kill Nyesom Wike during the taped call. According to reports, the conversation concluded with a plan to ask Governor Fubara for money to carry out the operation.
Following the intelligence report, Dr. Gbeneol was taken into custody by IRT agents under the command of Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammad Sanusi. According to reports, he has been detained for around two weeks.

Security sources also revealed that Danagogo, who is said to have gone underground after the issue surfaced, is still being sought.
However, the Nigeria Police confirmed the suspect’s detention and stated that an investigation is underway.
“He is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing,” Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin told newsmen on Monday, without saying more.

Sources acquainted with the situation stated that detectives are attempting to determine the complete facts surrounding the case and potential accomplices, despite the police refusing to provide any additional information regarding the identify of the suspect or the nature of the alleged offence.
