Rivers LG Boss Adds 100 Aides Weeks After Hiring 130 SAs
The chairman of Obio-Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has appointed an additional 100 special assistants.
Ihunwo shared this information in a post on X on Saturday.
“I have authorized the appointment of one hundred more individuals as Special Assistants to help me fulfill my objectives for my constituents,” he stated.
Among the newly appointed are Augustina Élodi, Obi Chima, Abi Chinazor Clara, Ginikachukwu Onyeagusi, Chigozie Emmanuel Esinulo, Sunday Confidence Onyinyechi, and Nworgu Namdi Emmanuel.
On January 9, 2024, Intel Region reported that the chairman had announced the appointment of 130 new special advisers.
“I have selected the following individuals as my Special Assistants,” he remarked.
“I congratulate them and urge them to serve diligently in the interest of Obio/Akpor local government. Their appointments take effect immediately.”
In July 2024, during his time as caretaker committee chairman of the LGA, Ihunwo appointed 100 special assistants.
The politician is known to be an ally of Siminalayi Fubara, the state governor.
In October of the same year, he removed Nyesom Wike’s name from the administrative building of the council secretariat.
Meanwhile, the chairman’s decision has led to varied responses on social media, with many questioning how he plans to fund the increased number of appointees.
REACTIONS
@gabriel_bolatit on X said, “Rivers State people, I feel for you. 230 special assistants for a local government chairman overseeing a territory smaller than Ikorodu Local Government, yet Bola Tinubu is the issue.”
@humso22 commented, “Sir, how do you intend to pay the salaries of all these people you’re appointing? It appears you’re making a new appointment every four market days.”
@ruleyourspace responded, “Why do you require so many assistants? Establish roles where they can actually contribute to enhancing the lives of the people. This should not be a spectacle without a meaningful purpose. After losing power, the people you provide fish to will go back home hungry. You can do better than this.”
@pdauda questioned, “Is this a joke at this point, or what? Where will your team of friends work, or will they operate remotely? Is there going to be a third list? Because I could nominate a few more people you don’t know.”
@jahosu1 remarked, “A good apprentice, you’ve learned your craft well. You’re following in the footsteps of your mentor WIKE. You manipulated an election that was evidently won by Peter Obi just to satisfy WIKE. The part you played in that election will be your reward in life’s journey. Amen and Amen.”
@teejebs expressed, “What are these plans that necessitate so many special assistants? Don’t you already have staff in the LG office capable of managing these tasks? This decline in quality leadership and thought at the LGA level is partly why some governors feel the need to control the LGAs.”
@FigervEl said, “Another squandering of public resources; at the local government level, you’re already misusing funds that are insufficient to transform your community. I can’t fathom where you got this template; if you calculate their annual salaries, it would be enough to construct a decent road for your people.”
@Jogwoba2 commented, “You’re doing well while your counterparts in Lagos are building hospitals and lasting schools. In the end, we will blame an Hausa man for preventing the development of our Niger Delta. Misplaced priorities!”
